The Princess And The Togepi!
The title of this episode is a pun on the fairy tale, The
Princess and the Pea. Misty returns in a set of two episodes full of
mystery and intrigue.
|
|
The Togepi Mirage
Misty shows her true colours in this amazing series of episodes.
Not only does she handle Brock as an awestruck Max and May look on, but she
shows her true Gym Leader potential.
Togepi's surprise evolution and departure from the series is a
fitting end to a great Pokémon. At first I thought the hatchling was just
a useless runt. But his character was slowly brought out over time and proved to
be a powerful Pokémon if difficult to train. Both it's secret powers and
its infantile antics were a wonderful source of entertainment. Its evolution was
a fitting goodbye gift to viewers. Good luck, Togetic, whereever you are!
Does anyone know where Misty got her Gyarados from?

Zigzag Zangoose
A fun performance by Meowth reciting Jessie's lines in the TR

Synopsis:
May enters the Fallabor Town Pokémon contest and wins her first ribbon.
My favourite scene:
Jessie's entrance into the contest, especially the laugh.

Synopsis:
Ash challenges Lavaridge gym leader Flannery and wins.
An inconsistency in the anime. In the past a sleeping
Pokémon was considered unable to fight and therefore lost a battle. In
this episode it was allowed to continue.

Rocket Rhyme:

A Double Dilemma
This episode has an interesting plot, full of surprises, and great
entertainment with a touch of comedy of errors. At the same time it could be
construed as a social commentary, a reflection of how people are infatuated with
their idols at the expense of good sense. The narrator sums it up with, "A
chaotic afternoon in the throes of Normanmania."
By the way, when Meowth says, "We're in the valley of the norman,"
is that a pun on something? Anyone got any ideas?
My favourite scene #1:
Team Rocket doing a Norman and family impersonation.
My favourite scene #2:
The queue of challengers waiting to battle Ash.
Rocket Rhyme:
Bystander: Who are you?
Jessie: Prepare for trouble, you'll find out soon enough.
James: And make it double, things are going to get tough.
|
|
Love, Petalburg Style
Note the irony when Kenny says, "You never know who could be around
listening."
Rocket Rhyme:
[TR about to catch Vigoroth, Slakoth and Slaking as well as
Pikachu.]
Jessie: Prepare for trouble, we don't want you.
James: And make it triple, plus Pikachu.
My favourite quote:
Joy: Besides being a nurse, I'm also a licensed pyrotechnician.

Balance of Power
Synopsis:
Ash challenges Petalburg gym leader Norman and wins.
What a great gym battle that was, as indeed it often is. And what a
sweet kid Max is. The more I see of Max, the more I like him. It's nice once in
a while to see he's human, not just a walking encyclopedia!
Hey, if I recall correctly, TR didn't do their motto.
My favourite scene:
Max crying because his dad lost the match.
|
|
A Six Pack Attack
My favourite quote:
Jessie: [after vacuuming May's Poké balls] You're
a sucker for punishment.
Meowth: You humans fall for this hole trap every time.
Rocket Rhyme:
Prepare for trouble from our secret base.
And make it double—it's a pretty cool place.
|
|
The Bicker the Better
My favourite scene:
The tad battle come brawl in which James and Ash are versing Jessica
and May.
Rocket Rhyme:
Prepare for trouble, we're reuniting.
And make it double, we're through with fighting.

|
Hokey Pokéballs

Whiscash and Ash
My favourite scene #1:
The look on Ash's face when Nero the Wiscash swallows his badges.
My favourite scene #2:
Nero swallowing the Master Ball.
My favourite quote:
It's a bite to the finish.
Rocket Rhyme:
Prepare for trouble, since you didn't seem to get it.
And make it double, we've decided to net it.
|
|
Me, Myself and Time
I'm a great fan of time travel stories. This was quite a tame
offering, but interesting nevertheless. Unfortunately the English title was a
spoiler for me.
Rocket Rhyme:
Prepare for trouble, let us sing you our song.
And make it double, if you care to sing along.
(Is this the first time that TR have sung their motto?)
|
|
A Fan With A Plan
Rocket Rhyme:
[After stealing May's and Savana's Pokemon Contest ribbons.]
Savana: Hey, they're not yours!
Jessie: Prepare for trouble, they are today.
James: If you can't win 'em, steal 'em I always say.
Jessie: To protect my entry status from devastation.
James: To alow a certain contestant to win her registration.
Jessie: To denounce the evils of losing, that's true.
James: To extend her winning streak from zero to two.
Jessie: Jessie.
James: And James.
Jessie: Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light.
James: Surrender now, do me a favour or I'll have to fight.
Jessie: This contest will have a cute winner by tonight.
Meowth: That's right.
Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!

Pearls Are A Spoink's Best Friend
This episode introduces us to Spoink. It would have been a silly
episode if it was not for the performance of the Magikarp salesman who makes an
entertaining cameo. Feebas is difficult to catch, while Magikarp are easy to
find. Selling Magikarp as Feebas seems an excellent new scam, once people have
caught on the original Magikarp scam.
My favourite scene #1:
The Magikarp salesman.
My favourite quote:
James: There's something fishy about this.
Rocket Rhyme:
Prepare for trouble, that's the name of our game.
And make it double, it's our claim to fame.

A Scare to Remember
It's been ages since I've seen a
character-gets-amnesia-from-a-knock-on-the-head story, and I was quite pleased
with how this one turned out.
My favourite quote:
Pikachu: [When it recognizes Ash] Pi...ka...pi...
Rocket Rhyme:
Prepare for trouble, that's not your concern.
And make it double, things have taken a turn.
|
|
Pokéblock, Stock and Berry
Rocket Rhyme:
[After stealing Kelly's Grumpig]
Prepare for trouble, stick to Poké-block makin'.
And make it double, we're bringing home the bacon.

Lessons in Lilycove
Synopsis:
May enters the Lilycove Pokémon contest and wins her third ribbon.
Jessie's antics with James's Chimecho had me laughing.
James's reactions were superb! Using psychic to turn Combusken's fire spin
attack back was a great and original idea, but being able to dissipate the
flames with a physical attack was ludicrous.
I don't recall the Rockets doing their motto in this one.
My favourite scene #1:
James's reactions to Combusken's attacks on his Chimecho.
My favourite quote:
James: When you're hurting Chimecho you're hurting me.
