These are just my "rough notes" for the song I wrote.
I found you when you were abandoned.
I saved your life on that cold, stormy night.
You became my friend.
I raised you and looked after you.
You looked up to me.
We helped each other through tough times.
But when you grew, you changed.
You thought you were strong enough to do things on your own.
You didn't understand what it means to be a team.
You let me down so badly on that day
when you refused to fight for me.
I still remember how I fell down on my knees in utter disappointment,
how cast down I felt.
Then on the beach that time,
again you didn't listen to me.
I needed you to help me.
Maybe I was selfish—
maybe I only wanted you to win so I could get the glory.
But you were foolish too.
You got yourself into trouble.
I stayed up to care for you.
I helped you make it through the night.
You realized we needed each other.
You finally understood that we must work together.
The day I won the trophy—
do you know how happy I was?
I couldn't have done it without you.
For a while, it could have gone either way.
When I called you out, you fought hard.
You didn't win the fight yourself—
you were part of my team.
But you shared my joy and my pride.
Then that fateful day,
you discovered that you weren't as great as you thought you were.
Your pride was finally cut to size.
You want to become the best you can be,
but I couldn't offer you that if you stayed with me.
You're good enough for me as you are.
I don't want you to go.
Still—I care about you so much,
I won't stand in your way.
Losing you, I risk losing my own dreams.
But that doesn't matter, because you've been my friend.
Train hard, be the best you can be.
Maybe we'll meet again some day.
Only don't forget me.
I'm the one who saved you and raised you.
Remember me, my fiery friend.
I'll always remember you.
