I have no idea if I'll ever get to finish this fic. For the record, I thought I would at least publish what I planned for the epilogue.
It was the end of Ash's first day back at work at Cerulean Gym. He and Misty went out to dinner. After that, they took the long walk to Cerulean Cape.
They sat together at the top of the rocky shore. In the darkness, the crashing waves below sparkled with reflected starlight. Summer was starting to wane, and the landward breeze was giving them goosebumps.
"Hold me," asked Misty.
Ash embraced her with his left arm. Her arm felt cold so he warmed her with his hand.
Ash looked at the stars.
"I wonder if we can see them, or if they can see us?" he said.
Misty joined his gaze at the celestial band of white, glowing in the cloudless sky. "I wonder if we'll ever see them again," she said.
"You know we never found out where their planet is."She shook her head. "The stars will never look the same again."
"Misty... you've been... uh... a bit cold towards me since the time those kids saw us."
She looked down, then turned to face him. "I'm sorry."
Ash could not read her face in the dark. "I was under the impression that you loved me. You know I love you, don't you."
Even the night could not hide the change in Misty's expression. It was as if a light had been lit inside her heart, letting her feelings shine out. Moving her face slowly toward his, she said softly, "That's all I needed to hear."
Their lips touched.
Sweetness filled their senses.
When it got too cold, they went home.
